NANCY SAVOCA’S FIRST FILMS

Poking her camera into the intimate relationships and the homes of the Italian community of New York, Nancy Savoca paints an intimate picture, disrupting both the classic tales of American cinema and the tenets of romantic comedy. Her first films reveal magnificent actors (River Phoenix, Lili Taylor) and part of the cast of The Sopranos (Annabella Sciorra, Michael Imperioli) before they joined the mob. Laurent Achard was a brilliant director and a dear friend of the festival. A whole week in the company of his characters’ unforgettable gaze, young boys who crave love, having witnessed the unspeakable. We will screen the 6 films that we were thrilled to have had as part of our festival competition, presented by his filmmaking family (Pascal Cervo, Ricardo Muñoz).

VAMPS! The female body of silent movies

Having made their appearance at the very early stages of film, Vamps have opened new perspectives to the female figure, freeing the body from the constraints of fashion and social mores. Films by Germaine Dulac and vamps such as Musidora, Asta Nielsen, Valeria Creti, Alla Nazimova; presented by female historians. And a very special live-music screening of the film Salomé by Charles Bryant, conducted by Emile Sornin.

IRMA VEP : THE ACTRESS AND HER DOUBLE

Starting from Irma Vep, the series by Olivier Assayas (part of the 2024 baccalaureate curriculum), we shall explore the many facets of actresses in film: the reflections and the inlaid stories. From Mankiewicz’s classic The Barefoot Contessa to Mai Zetterling’s modern, Swedish take in The Girls, and David Lynch’s fantasy glamour in Mulholland Drive.
