Entrevues pays tribute to two French filmmakers: Robert Bresson, who disappeared this year, and François Truffaut, through a complete retrospective of their work.
And, honour to women in the Transversale program: "La Tête dans les étoiles" is dedicated this year to the actresses. Lillian Gish, Louise Brooks, Marlene Dietrich, Sophia Loren, Ingrid Berman, Brigitte Bardot or Catherine Deneuve, thirty actresses that turned cinema upside down.

The Grand Prix for the Best French Feature film is given ex-aequo to Laurent Cantet for his first feature film Ressources humaines and to Jean-Paul Civeyrac for Les Solitaires.
Those last two directors also won the Gérard Frot-Coutaz award (Jean-Paul Civeyrac) and the Audience Feature Film award (Laurent Cantet). The Grand Prix for the Best Documentary is given to the film La Vallée close by Jean-Claude Rousseau.
Also in the international competition: Sebastien Lifshitz with Les Terres froides, Jacques Maillot with Nos vies heureuses or Arnaud des Pallières with his documentary Is dead - Portrait incomplet de Gertrude Stein.
