From its sublime opening scene—a lyrical take-off into a country at dusk, on a anonymous harbour where men wearing sailors’ striped jerseys exchange intense looks—Brüder der Nacht sets up a small theatrical world in which magic is ever-present. Based on his encounter with young men from Bulgaria prostituting themselves in Austria, Patric Chiha has created a mirror-film. On the one hand, there is the reflection of these men’s real life: full of sadness and abandonments, yet also fraternally joyful. On the other hand, we go through the looking glass with scenes that represent a fantasized and phantasmagorical life and take us by the hand somewhere close to the territories of Fassbinder and Pasolini, somewhere that is most definitely ‘over the rainbow’. (Laurence Reymond)
Patric Chiha a d'abord étudié la mode à Paris, puis le montage à l'INSAS à Bruxelles.
