Short Stay
Ted Fendt
Mike is the prototype of a thirty-something ‘adulescent’. When a friend offers him his room in a flat-share in Philadelphia, the suburbanite embarks on the great city adventure. From new encounters to small and improbable jobs, Mike evolves awkwardly and, before long, he finds himself confronted with what makes life so complicated: other people. With this first, highly tense feature, Ted Fendt reinvents the figure of the ‘loser’, and turns it into the reflection of a world that is comfortable with its own cruelty. Under its atmosphere of bitter-sweet comedy, Short Stay demonstrates some acerbic traits and a magnificent excellence, both on the level of its precise staging and in the venomous portrait it paints of North America.
