Losing Ground
Anonyme
In February 2021, Myanmar wakes up to the sounds of a military coup. The hopes of an entire generation are extinguished. Protests are held, but the dictatorship is too powerful: arrests, imprisonments and threats of execution ensue. The capital becomes a large open-air prison, but a few anonymous voices still have the strength to cry out.
The current political situation in Myanmar means that the makers of this film must remain anonymous.

A word from the selection committee :
Demonstrations and repression have become routine for a whole generation since Myanmar turned into a dictatorship after the 2021 coup d’état. In this violent world, one can still use light, editing and film to make one’s voice heard: “Even in prison, we young people try to find freedom.” That quest for freedom is the driving force for a collective of young directors. Through images, these directors bear witness to important stories of captivity while questioning the relative freedom a whole population gets used to once dictatorship takes hold. A coup d’état can turn our apartment and the city we’ve always known into an open-air prison.
