A word from the selection committee :
Mes indésirables is Félix Fattal eco-friendly cinematic endeavour: he strives to visually recycle advertising contents that pollute our daily lives. Accumulated spam mail (from bitcoin purchase to dating websites) on the director’s email address is turned into a poetic well, much like William S Burroughs’s cut ups. Words are collected and displayed on the screen like a bunch of dried flowers. Physicality is more manifest than it first appears in this walk in the forest, as the off-screen presence of the camera operator is felt in each frame; through his staggered walk, jagged breathing which convey emotional turmoil. Floating melancholy infuses the nuanced humour of the text, like a fine layer of moss. The director crafts words as he moulds his images, reaching the utter visual limit of VHS texture. As the phrases poetically decompose and scatter across the screen, images become more abstract, pixels sprawl and spread before our very eyes. Purposefully, he creates a chasm between words and images to convey an settling feeling, which for a moment in time, leads us astray on our quest for meaning.
