A word from the selection committee :
The attention to sound design in Visit Me in My Dreams is striking: the ruffling leaves, coffee being ground, even the screeching windmill, are tell-tale signs of a life that goes by with the seasons. However, Sora Hokimoto’s pop music regularly assaults this naturalistic soundscape. These seemingly obvious tunes propelled by the sudden sound of a piano or string instruments, conjure up forgotten classics, and present countless opportunities to explore a reality in which the boundaries between the living and the dead are momentarily abolished. If they cannot communicate directly, they leave all sorts of signs behind them (an abandoned road sign in the middle of the street, a gift left hanging on a clothesline), allowing their relatives - and the audience - access to a dream world: country roads, where fantasy lurks just round the corner.
