Lenny
Nicolás Gontovnikas
It’s Lenny’s holiday, an awkward and lonely college student. An idle summer makes for difficult choices, and he drifts away in the blistering sun day after day.
Nicolás Gontovnikas is a graduate of the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Lenny, his first short film, premiered at BAFICI.
A word from the selection committee:
Lenny is an ensemble film, but a rather off-key ensemble, and that’s precisely the allure of this work. At the heart of that ramshackle short film is Lenny Goldman, in the throes of an existential crisis brought about by his idleness. It is no small feat to capture the exact tone of this comedy of manners and its Rohmerian undertones, as the film delights in disarming our expectations and refuses the all-too obvious comedic tropes. In very little time - barely more than fifteen minutes - the young filmmaker manages to create strange lulls that convey the pervasive aimlessness that plagues these characters from the affluent neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires.
