Summertime in Ostatenham, the locals wait for a synchronised swimming competition to be broadcast on. Among them, a child, a teenage girl, and a lady meet through their dreams and nightmares.

Anaïs Ibert is a filmmaker, photographer and visual artist. Member of the Abominable / Navire Argo laboratory, she has been self-producing her experimental films since 2012. Ostatenham is her first produced narrative film.

A word from the selection committee:
The residents of an imaginary village in Normandy get together around a regional synchronised swimming championship. The event, broadcast on television, seems to get the tempers and temperature rising: the three characters of three different generations can no longer sleep at Ostatenham, torn between the heat, the anticipation, and the ghost stories. Above all, the sports broadcast echoes their dreams and nightmares, the tales easily intercepted if one listens closely. Ostatenham quietly asserts its eclectic world, so familiar and yet out of left-field. Subtle shifts are directed with great attention to detail, nudges to stealthy slapstick comedy, thus extending Anaïs Ibert’s film work as an experimental artist.
